On April 11, China Eastern Airlines took off from Shanghai Pudong International Airport to San Francisco to take international students back home. Most of the students are between the ages of 12 and 16. Flight MU590 is the second temporary flight operated by China Eastern to pick up overseas students. On the 2nd of this month, China Eastern dispatched flight MU7072 to take back 180 international students from the UK.
China Eastern started the preparation work as soon as possible, and selected the best aircraft type and the strongest flight crew to perform the flight. Among flight crew, the captain’s safe flight time exceeds 18,000 hours, and the cumulative flight time of all crews exceeds 84,000 hours. Most of the crew have previously participated in emergency air transportation missions to Libya, Japan, and Sierra Leone, and have extensive flight experience.
